چکیده

The paper discusses a model of viscosity η of glassforming melts in an attempt to predict the dependence of η on temperature T and on pressure P. The equation, derived here, describes with excellent accuracy all existing experimental viscosity data including those of glassforming melts, igneous materials and polymers. It is demonstrated that the activation energy E(Tg) can be expressed through the glass transition temperature Tg as E(Tg)=εRTg where εR=260±10% in J/(mol K). The dependencies of the parameters of the viscosity equation are discussed for certain geoscientifically relevant systems. According to the model the relaxation time of the mantle is about 32000 years, a time suspiciously close to the period during which the direction of magnetic poles changes. © 2006 Elsevier B.V. Pressure and Temperature Dependence of Viscosity of Volcanic Lava

We consider a model of viscosity η of volcanic lavas. The equation, describes with high accuracy the existing experimental data on temperature and pressure dependence of viscosity of igneous materials. It is demonstrated that, the activation energy E(Tg) can be expressed through the glass transition temperature Tgo. The dependencies of the parameters of the viscosity equation are discussed for ...

Pressure Dependence of Viscosity of Glassforming Melts

We suggest a model in which viscosity η is related to entropy of the system. The model successfully describes the dependence of viscosity on pressure. A master equation is developed that allows a comparison of data obtained at different temperatures. Earlier, in the framework of the same model we described the dependence of viscosity on temperature. The present treatment gives a simple interpre...

Submitted 13.01.2005 JNCS Viscosity in Disordered Media

The paper addresses the properties of glassforming melts in an attempt to predict the dependence of viscosity on temperature and on pressure. A review on the main viscosity models (free volume model, the Adam & Gibbs model etc.) is given. It is demonstrated that the activation energy can be expressed through the glass transition temperature Tg. The main attention is concentrated on the jump fre...

Global Stability for Thermal Convection in a Couple Stress Fluid Saturating a Porous Medium with Temperature-Pressure Dependent Viscosity: Galerkin Method

A global nonlinear stability analysis is performed for a couple-stress fluid layer heated from below saturating a porous medium with temperature-pressure dependent viscosity for different conducting boundary systems. Here, the global nonlinear stability threshold for convection is exactly the same as the linear instability boundary. This optimal result is important because it shows that lineari...
